What is the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals?
Often referred to as OFA for short, the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals is an organization that 'promotes the health and welfare of companion animals through a reduction in the incidence of genetic disease.' Veterinarian offices share their test results directly with OFA and CERF which automatically share the results with what is known as the CHIC Database. A CHIC number (Canine Health Information Center) is issued when all test results are entered into the database satisfying the breed specific requirements.
